What is in the design
The four digits of 2013 are stacked into a single narrow column and drawn in ornate blackletter calligraphy — sharp tapered spikes, fine hairlines and interlocking swashes, so the whole thing reads as one symbol rather than a date. A serpent coiled around the column in tight spirals, wedge head at the top with forked tongue, tapering tail at the bottom.
